Nomination and special election for Unit 1 and 3 Chief Steward and Unit 2 (Midnights) Alternate Chief Steward will take place at the regular membership meeting August 2, 2016. The 3 positions are for the remainder of the current term which expire in December of this year.

The tentative agreement reached on June 8, 2016 has been ratified by the membership. The effective date of the agreement will be July 1, 2016 as long as the Board of Regents approves the contract. Thank you to everyone that assisted with this contract.
The tentative agreement is attached below. Ratification vote will be held on Monday June 13, 2016 6:30 am until 3:00pm in the union office. One important note not mentioned this morning is that the benefits starting January 1, 2017 will include an eye exam every year and 2 hearing aids every 3 years.
The negotiations team has reached a tentative agreement for a 3 year contract with the University. Tentative Agreement Presentation will occur starting at 7:00am and a second presentation at 8:30am on Friday June 10, 2016 in the Student Center, room 208 (correction). Ratification vote will be held on Monday June 13, 2016 6:30 am until 3:00pm in the union office.
There is AFSCME Council 25 Region 4 steward training scheduled on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Ann Arbor. Prior registration is required before 5:00PM on Wednesday June 8 if you would like to attend. The local is providing an incentive for any elected position of the local union to attend. This includes district stewards, chief stewards, alternates, eboard members and others. There has been some confusion as far a vacancy language. I have attached the language with changes from the Tentative Agreement added below. Also here are a few key points.
-When bidding on an open position same class applicants will be awarded the position by seniority (example: FM6 Custodian bidding on FM6 Custodian position)
-If there is no same class applicant then the employer may choose from the 3 most senior qualified out of class bargaining group applicants to fill the position (example: FM6 Custodian bidding on FM12 Groundsperson position)
-The successful bidder has 20 days to transfer back to old position
